It’s been almost five years since our last newsletter to you (about our documentary High School 9-1-1)1. We’re excited to say hello again by welcoming you to our new Substack Channel, AGE (in)APPROPRIATE—A love letter to age.2
We begin on National Ageism Awareness Day with a question.
Aging isn’t a given. It’s a gift. What are you going to do with it?
The answer literally screams at us—asking for snuggles, story time and sustenance—every morning. It was a few months after we sent you that last newsletter, we welcomed our baby girl into this world.
With AGE (in)APPROPRIATE we will share our experience becoming first time parents in our 50’s and the extraordinary lessons we have learned (and are still learning) as we navigate that paradoxical intersection’s milieu.
Through newsletters, essays, podcasts, documentary series and community, our mission with the AGE (in)Appropriate Channel is to:
Spark actionable ideas to regain or maintain optimal health, wealth and happiness.
Nurture and develop age positive mindsets.
Bridge the divide between generations.
Share insights, stories and wisdom from those who have reached a great age.
Explore the latest science and trends in healthy aging that will help us all put the most candles on our birthday cake.
In other words, we plan to stave off the second law of thermodynamics for as long as we can. We have no other choice. It’s officially our moral obligation to stay healthy and alive long enough to raise our daughter and see her deep into adulthood.
The AGE (in)Appropriate Channel is about what is possible with age, what we can be capable of at any age, and how to navigate anti-aging and deal with age anxiety, particularly in health, work and parenting.
Age (in)Appropriate is a place where we consider age, whatever the number, to be sacred. Our goal is to reframe “OLD” from a dirty, depressing word to one filled with hope, possibility, excitement and respect.
Age (in)Appropriate is also a safe space if you are “YOUNG” and want to advocate for your future self or current self. Ageism exists at both ends of the age spectrum. Just ask the teenagers of Darien EMS Post 53. Or Tim, who experienced ageism first hand when he was a teen EMT in Post.
All are welcome! Because anyone fortunate enough to be aspirating is growing in age every second of every minute of every day.
Our mission is to make a positive impact on your life. Our purpose is to endow us all with possibility, knowledge and community support to adapt, change, improve and dare to think and act differently to make the most of any magical age.
If we see it, we can believe it and try to be it.
We invite you to lean in with us as we launch our new channel examining our unconventional path doing things inappropriate for our age and stay for the entertaining, informative, inspirational, and aspirational content.
Thank you for being here and for all of your continued love, belief and interest in our work. We deeply appreciate you and your support.
Here’s to defying the societal, cultural, mental and physical constraints of our age.
With love and gratitude,
Kelli & Tim
